We tested 10 of the most-used tools by uploading the same three rooms — a dated living room, a cluttered bedroom, and a galley kitchen — and asking each app to produce a renovation-ready redesign.

How We Evaluated Each Tool

Confusingly named, this tool focuses on real estate staging rather than renovation planning. It excels at virtually furnishing empty rooms — useful for sellers — but performs poorly when existing furniture and walls are already present in the photo. Not the right tool for renovation planning.
6. Planner 5D AI
Planner 5D added an AI photo-to-render feature in late 2025. It works, but the outputs default to a generic mid-century modern aesthetic regardless of the style you select. Customer support confirmed this is a training data issue they are working on. At $9.99/month it is affordable, but the lack of style diversity limits its usefulness for exploring different renovation directions.
7. Collov AI
Collov AI is fast — renders in under 15 seconds — but speed comes at the cost of coherence. Despite the name, Roomstyler 3D has not meaningfully integrated AI as of 2026. It is a manual drag-and-drop room planner with a catalog of real furniture products. Useful for exact-specification planning but misrepresented as an AI tool in its current marketing.
What Actually Matters When Choosing a Tool
After testing all ten, three factors consistently separated useful tools from impressive-looking demos.
Structural fidelity. Any tool that moves your windows or changes your ceiling height is producing fantasy, not a renovation preview. Before trusting any AI output, verify that fixed architectural elements appear in the correct positions.
Style range and control. A tool with eight preset styles will force you into one of eight aesthetics. If your goal is Wabi-Sabi or Maximalist Eclectic, a narrow style library is a hard blocker. Tools with 15 or more distinct styles — and the ability to upload reference images — give you real creative range.
