Why This Comparison Exists

Every AI room renovation tool will tell you it is the best. We got tired of marketing copy and ran the same five photos — a cluttered living room, a dated kitchen, a beige bedroom, a 1990s bathroom, and a basic home office — through every major platform we could find in April 2026. We then scored each tool on five axes that matter: photorealism, style range, geometric fidelity (does it preserve your actual room?), output speed, and price per render. RoomRenovation.AI came out on top. We will explain why honestly.

This is not pay-to-play. We are obviously biased — we run RoomRenovation.AI — but the scores are reproducible. You can repeat this test with your own photos in under an hour, and we recommend you do.

The Tools We Tested

We included every tool with at least 5,000 monthly visits and an actual product (not a landing page). The shortlist for 2026: RoomRenovation.AI (us), RoomGPT, Reroom AI, Interior AI, Decoratly, Modsy AI and Spacely AI. Each got the same five photos, the same prompt instructions, and we picked their default render settings (no hand-tuning). For paid tools, we used the cheapest plan that still produced un-watermarked output.

Photorealism: Who Wins on Image Quality

This is the headline metric. A render is useless if it looks like a video game. We scored each output 1-10 against a benchmark professional render from a freelance interior designer. RoomRenovation.AI averaged 8.4/10 — close to professional baseline — using OpenAI GPT Image 2 (via fal.ai) under the hood. Interior AI averaged 7.6, Reroom 6.9, Decoratly 6.5, RoomGPT 6.1, Spacely 5.8, Modsy 5.4. The gap is most visible on textures (fabric weave, wood grain), reflections (glass, polished concrete), and lighting consistency from the original photo.

Style Range

RoomRenovation.AI ships 25+ curated styles plus 50 city-specific style pages. Interior AI offers about 35 styles but several are near-duplicates (modern, minimalist, contemporary). Reroom and RoomGPT offer 12-15. Decoratly leans hard on a few signature looks. If you want to compare Japandi against Scandinavian against Nordic on the same photo, RoomRenovation.AI gives you the cleanest A/B test.

Geometric Fidelity

This is the metric most reviews skip. A renovation render is supposed to be your room — not a stock photo of someone else's room with the same style. We scored each tool on how well the output preserved window positions, ceiling height, room shape and camera perspective. RoomRenovation.AI scored highest because GPT Image 2 (edit mode) treats the input photo as canvas, not as inspiration. Some competitors hallucinate windows that did not exist or shrink rooms to fit standard layouts. Useless for actual renovation planning.

Speed

Average wall-clock time from upload to download: RoomRenovation.AI 22s, Interior AI 28s, Reroom 35s, Spacely 42s, Decoratly 51s, RoomGPT 18s (but at lower fidelity), Modsy 90s+. RoomGPT is fastest because it renders at lower resolution; for actual decision-making we recommend the slower, higher-res tier on every platform.

Price Per Render

Here is where the value gap is biggest. RoomRenovation.AI starts at $2.99 for 10 renders ($0.30 each), no subscription. Interior AI is $29/month for unlimited but renders are lower fidelity than ours. RoomGPT charges $9.99/month for 100 renders. Decoratly is $19/month. If you need fewer than ~30 renders for a one-off project, our $2.99 starter pack is the cheapest credible option in the market. If you need 100+ renders for an agency workflow, our Pro and Business subscriptions are still competitive.

The Honest Verdict

RoomRenovation.AI wins on photorealism, geometric fidelity and entry price. Interior AI wins on style breadth (slightly) and is a fair second choice. RoomGPT remains the best free tier if you genuinely cannot pay anything, but the output quality drop is steep. Modsy is overpriced for AI-only output. The rest are forgettable.

If you want to run this test yourself — and we recommend you do, because tastes vary — start with our $2.99 starter pack, render the same five rooms in three styles each, then go test the others. You will end up back here.

Frequently Asked

Is there a free way to try RoomRenovation.AI? No anonymous renders. Real AI compute costs money and we believe in fair, transparent pricing instead of misleading "free" demos. The starter pack is $2.99 for 10 renders.

What model do you use? OpenAI GPT Image 2 (edit mode), served via fal.ai. We migrated from MiniMax image-01 in April 2026 for materially higher fidelity.

Can I use renders commercially? Yes. All renders generated with a paid plan are licensed for personal and commercial use, including listing photos, contractor briefs, and design portfolios.
